In our industry, the will to reduce plastics and move towards eco-friendly solutions has been building up. Following years of development in response to consumer trends and the demand of customers, Smithers-Oasis has introduced the latest generation of OASIS® Floral Foam, called Maxlife, the first floral foam with Enhanced Biodegradability.
As we announced it in the Australian Flower Industry magazine of December 2018, Koch & Co is proud to be one of the first suppliers on the Australian market to offer this product to florists.
1. What is Oasis® Floral Foam Maxlife with Enhanced Biodegradability?
Biodegradable products by definition are those that can be broken down into simpler compounds through the action of water, light, air and microorganisms.
As soon as they come into contact with water, biodegradable products will start to degrade and leave behind methane gas, CO2 and/or organic matter.
Smithers-Oasis has announced that the new OASIS® Floral Foam Maxlife with Enhanced Biodegradability has been formulated to biodegrade and to attract microbes that break the foam down faster. According to the American laboratory that conducted the test, the bricks can biodegrade 100 percent within 567 days in biologically active landfill conditions.
General tips for handling floral foam:
– Store in dry and cool place, avoid direct sunlight.
– Clean hands after handling foam.
– Do not inhale dust.
– Do not swallow foam.
– Store in low area to avoid eye contact.
2. Does it still look, feel and perform like the other floral foams?
Yes. Smithers-Oasis has confirmed that the OASIS® Floral Foam Maxlife maintains all of its attributes of the floral foams you are used to, including extended flower life, density, fast-absorption, colour and texture.
3. Why is it important for your customers to know you are using floral foam with Enhanced Biodegradability?
Australian consumers are increasingly conscious of the environment when shopping for their businesses or for themselves.
