Autumn Wedding Ideas

Whether you’re thinking of throwing an autumn wedding, or just love a colour scheme which is heavy on tangerine, russet and natural tones – Halloween is the perfect day to kick start your imagination. After all March, and with it the start of autumn, is just around the corner in wedding planning terms. And we noticed Halloween and fall weddings share a lot in common when it comes to a love of nature and all things orange!

If you are set on a fall wedding, we’re sure you’re going to have a lot of fun putting it all together. We thought we’d look at some ideas to help supercharge your creative urges, and inspire some great DIY projects that incorporate a range of creative wedding supplies and the candles Australia loves!

Whether you simply want to nod to the season with a few pumpkins and some touches of fall decor, or fully embrace all that is autumn, we’ve come up with seven DIY ideas to help you throw the perfect autumn themed wedding.

Fall Wedding Inspiration & Decor

1. Flower-Filled Lanterns or Tin Pots Flower-filled lanterns make great bouquets, and can easily double as alluring centrepieces. All you have to do is take a lantern (black or silver works well) and arrange a floral display within its hollow interior, making sure that the flowers protrude out from the inside. Tinware also works brilliantly for table centrepieces. Feel free to experiment with both real and artificial flowers, or a mixture of both – and with an autumn theme, don’t be afraid to go for a really colourful floral arrangment.

2. Pumpkin Lanterns Votives and mason jars are a classic choice when it comes to candle holders for summer weddings. When it comes to staging a autumn wedding, line the aisle with brightly lit pumpkins (think pretty star pattern cut outs rather than jack-o-lanterns) for a fun, unexpected twist, or consider spray-painting your glass mason jars with Design Master Spray in one of their autumn shades like Coral Bright or Tangerine. Then simply place the candles Australia adores inside the pumpkin and that’s it!

3. Branch-Inspired Décor Branches placed in glass vases make for rustic and creative additions to your table decor and add lots of sculptural interest. Place these at the end of each reception table with vintage tealights and a table number hanging below the branches on jute string, so guests can easily find their place.

4. Orange Candles & China Add an autumnal feel to your reception tables by dressing them up with simple but dramatic orange candles and orange ceramic candle stands. It’s a colour scheme that instantly adds warmth and creates a relaxing but joyful mood – double that when the candles are lit!

5. Moss Use moss as part of your table centrepieces, arrangements or to decorate candleabra and candle stands. Moss now comes in a range of colours, so you don’t have to stick to green – although that does work beautifully with orange tones to create a lush fall feel. Decorative moss can be both an elegant and unexpected addition to bouquets that will lend your flower arrangements a distinctly fall flavour. The couple above have used a small piece to display their wedding rings.

6. Pumpkin Name Card Holders Pumpkins work beautifully for an autumn themed wedding, and one clever way to feature them is to use mini pumpkins, which grow to be about the size of a tennis ball, as name card holders. Simply make an incision in the top and place your guests’ name card inside.

7. Fall Invitations Experimenting with unusual wedding invitations is a fun way to celebrate the season. Whether it’s a maple leaf design, on kraft paper, or in striking black and white – invitations are the ideal way to set the tone for your autumn-themed wedding. Upon receiving the invite, your guests will from the very outset see that this isn’t going to be a typical summer or spring ‘white’ wedding.
