Decorative moss brings natural texture, colour and organic detail to terrariums, floristry, craft projects, botanical displays and event styling. Koch & Co’s range includes sheet moss, moss balls, rock moss, moss mats, mood moss, hair moss, mixed moss, moss rolls and flat moss, giving you a choice of textures and formats for both small creative projects and larger decorative installations.
Sheet moss is particularly useful when you need broader coverage across surfaces, planter bases, terrariums or display areas, while moss mats and rolls provide convenient formats for projects requiring a more consistent moss finish. Rock moss, mood moss, hair moss and mixed moss can be used to introduce variation in texture, height and colour.
Moss balls are one of the most versatile formats in the collection. Their rounded shape makes them easy to use in bowls, terrariums, table displays, shop styling and botanical arrangements, either individually or grouped together for greater visual impact. They can also be combined with other preserved moss textures to create layered, natural-looking displays.
This collection forms part of our wider Preserved Moss range. For more specialised moss types, explore Reindeer Moss for soft, branching texture, Spanish Moss for trailing, thread-like styling, or Moss Poles for plant-support applications.
Decorative preserved moss is different from artificial moss. These products begin as natural moss and are treated to help maintain their decorative appearance, whereas artificial moss is manufactured from synthetic materials to imitate natural moss.
To help decorative moss retain its colour and texture, keep it dry, away from prolonged direct sunlight and protected from excessive humidity. Family owned and supplying the floral and gift trade since 1931, Koch & Co offers decorative moss for retail and wholesale customers, with fast delivery Australia-wide.
What's the difference between decorative moss and reindeer or Spanish moss?
Decorative moss covers preserved formats such as sheet moss, moss balls, rock moss, moss mats, mood moss, hair moss and mixed moss. Reindeer Moss is actually a branching lichen with a soft, sponge-like texture, while Spanish Moss is a trailing epiphyte with long, thread-like strands. All are used as preserved botanical materials, but their different shapes and textures suit different styling applications. You can explore the complete range under Preserved Moss.
Can decorative moss be dyed or coloured?
Yes. Preserved decorative moss can be coloured during the preservation process, and Koch & Co stocks moss in a variety of natural and decorative shades, including forest, nature and lime green tones depending on the moss type. This makes sheet moss, moss balls and other decorative mosses easy to coordinate with different floral, event and craft projects.
