Country Wedding Ideas

Australian Country Wedding Ideas

Late last year we published an article entitled three unique wedding theme ideas where we took a cursory look at three of the coolest wedding themes of 2014. One of the themes we explored as part of that post was country and/or rustic weddings, and since their popularity doesn’t appear to be waning we thought we would look at a few more country wedding ideas.

Charming and down-to-earth, country-style weddings are all about cosy DIY touches and rustic tones. Homely ceremonies followed by informal (usually outdoor) receptions and lots of hand-made goodies are the go with a country-themed weddings.

With an eclectic mix of landscapes to choose from, from vineyards to desert locations each of Australia’s eight states and territories features a fantastic selection of country wedding settings.

Choosing a Natural Setting

Country weddings are still incredibly popular among city slickers, with more and more city folk opting to get away from the hustle and bustle of a city wedding and escape into nature. The theme is a natural fit for couples who love the outdoors or simply want a unique wedding that is inspired by nature.

Australia is full of magnificent country wedding settings including New South Wales’ Blue Mountains; Victoria’s Yarra Valley; Litchfield National Park in the Northern Territory; and Western Australia’s Margaret River wine region. While the country wedding setting itself acts as a natural, rustic backdrop for the ceremony, it’s the details that really bring home the country theme.

Adding a Floral Touch

When organising the floral arrangements for your country wedding think wildflowers, Aussie natives, sprigs, and sprays tied together with jute twine. Staging a country themed wedding is the perfect excuse for doing away with traditional bouquets of roses, artificial lilies and the like. Also, another design touch that we love here at Koch is decorating your country themed wedding venue with seasonal objects native to the region such as local fruits, vegetables and flora.

Tables & Centrepieces

When it comes to seating your guests at your country wedding, nothing beats wood. Choosing wooden tables and/or wood-toned chairs to accompany them can really add to a wedding receptions rustic feel. Beautiful, rustic wooden tables also allow you plenty of room to get creative with your centrepieces and look stunning contrasted against glass accents like cylinder vases or a glass cake stand. Rustic wooden tables and glass milk bottles also go hand-in-hand, and look beautiful with candles in them!

At Koch we love seeing brightly coloured floral centrepieces accompanied by candles when matching wooden reception tables with floral centrepieces. We also love scented candles that go with the theme, especially lavender candles!

One of the greatest things about throwing or attending a country weddings is the way they allow everyone a chance to get out of the city and connect with nature. All you’ve got to do is choose a beautiful natural setting, and from there the clean country air, fresh produce, and stunning scenery will do the rest. Incorporating beautiful scents is also key too, so why not try floral lavender candles or a fruity scented candle! Simply add a few wildflowers and some heartfelt touches of DIY inspiration, and the country wedding of your dreams will quickly become a reality.
