Cement Pots FAQ

What are cement pots used for?

Cement pots are versatile decorative vessels that can be used for floral arrangements, tabletop displays, event styling and home décor. Depending on the design, they may be suitable for fresh, dried or artificial flowers, as well as decorative displays.

Koch & Co’s Mediterranean-inspired cement pots are specifically designed for flower arranging rather than live planting. They can be used with wet floral foam for fresh flowers or dry floral foam for dried and artificial arrangements.

Can you put fresh flowers in cement pots?

Yes. Cement pots designed for flower arranging can be used with fresh flowers. For the Fortress, Ember and Rosette cement pots, we recommend using wet floral foam to support and hydrate fresh flower stems.

These pots can also be used with dry floral foam for dried flowers and artificial flower arrangements.

Can I plant directly into a cement pot?

Not all cement pots are designed for live planting, so it is important to check whether the pot has drainage holes.

The Fortress, Ember and Rosette cement pots do not have drainage holes and are intended as flower-arranging vessels rather than planters. Use them with floral foam for fresh, dried or artificial arrangements instead.

What are the benefits of cement pots?

Cement pots offer a substantial, durable feel and provide greater stability than many lightweight plastic alternatives. Their textured surfaces and neutral finishes also make them easy to incorporate into a wide variety of floral, event and interior styling themes.

The weight of cement can be particularly useful for tabletop flower arrangements because it helps create a stable base for the finished design.

Are cement pots suitable for artificial flowers?

Yes. Cement pots are a great choice for artificial flower arrangements because their weight provides a stable base while their textured finish complements realistic artificial stems and foliage.

For smaller cement pots, use artificial posies, short stems or compact arrangements suited to the scale of the vessel.

Are cement pots suitable for dried flowers?

Yes. Cement pots pair particularly well with dried and preserved flowers because their natural, textured appearance complements dried grasses, preserved foliage and other organic materials.

Dry floral foam can be placed inside suitable cement pots to help secure stems and create structured arrangements.

What is the difference between the Fortress, Ember and Rosette cement pots?

Each style has its own sculptural shape. Fortress features a strong castellated profile, Ember has a smaller, softly rounded form, while Rosette features a fluted, flower-inspired texture.

All three designs are available in Grey and Off White and are designed to coordinate together for layered tablescapes and floral displays.

What sizes are the Mediterranean cement pots?

The collection includes three compact tabletop sizes:

  • Fortress: 10 × 16 × 13cmH
  • Ember: 8.5 × 13 × 10.5cmH
  • Rosette: 10 × 18 × 12.5cmH

Each shape is available in Grey and Off White.

How do I clean a cement pot?

Wipe cement pots with a dry or lightly damp cloth as required. Avoid harsh cleaning products that may affect the surface finish.

For the Mediterranean-inspired range, prolonged exposure to heavy rain or frost is not recommended unless the pot has been appropriately sealed.

Can cement pots be used outdoors?

Cement is a durable material, and suitable cement pots can work well in covered outdoor styling areas. However, exposure recommendations vary depending on the pot's finish and sealing.

The Fortress, Ember and Rosette pots are suitable for indoor and covered outdoor displays, but prolonged exposure to driving rain or frost should be avoided unless sealed.

Are cement pots good for weddings and events?

Yes. Cement pots are well suited to weddings, events and hospitality styling because their weight provides stability and their neutral finish works across a variety of themes.

Textured cement pots can be particularly effective for Mediterranean, coastal, rustic and contemporary tablescapes, and can be grouped in different shapes and sizes to create layered centrepieces.
