Frequently Asked Questions About OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam

What makes OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam eco-friendly?

OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam is a predominantly plant-based floral foam designed for fresh flower arrangements. Unlike traditional floral foam, which is made using majority petroleum-based materials, Renewal™ Floral Foam is in large part produced from renewable, bio-based resources.

Approximately 83% of the ingredients of Renewal™ Floral Foam come from biobased materials. However, the nature of the other 17% of ingredients are not specified by the manufacturer. As stated by OASIS®, these unspecified materials have no current biobased substitutes, yet they are essential to the feel and performance of the overall product.

Studies conducted by independent third-party nova-Institut indicate that Renewal™ Floral Foam has a 56% lower carbon footprint compared to petroleum-based floral foam.

Is OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam biodegradable?

No. OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam is not yet shown to be biodegradable.

While it incorporates plant-based renewable materials and is designed to be a more sustainable option than traditional floral foam, it should not be considered a biodegradable floral mechanic.

Is OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam compostable?

No. OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam is not yet shown to be compostable.

While it incorporates plant-based renewable materials and is designed to be a more sustainable option than traditional floral foam, it should not be considered a compostable floral mechanic.

How do I dispose of OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam?

Disposal in general waste is recommended. This item is not to be composted, nor disposed of in recycling or organic waste bins.

Is OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam toxic?

OASIS® states that this product is non-toxic. They recommend that it can be used without the use of gloves, and debris from soaking this foam is safe to wash down the drain. It does not contain formaldehyde, but does contain plastics, which are derived from petrochemicals.

Does OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam work as well as regular floral foam?

Yes. OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam has been designed to provide the same professional performance florists expect when creating fresh flower arrangements. It offers:

  • Excellent water uptake and retention
  • Secure stem support
  • Suitable density for a wide range of stem types
  • Easy cutting and shaping
  • Compatibility with both everyday and large-scale event work

Is OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam softer than traditional floral foam?

Many florists who have used OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam report that it feels slightly softer than traditional green floral foam. Some users describe it as a little more delicate, although many have also reported successful results when using it for large-scale designs and event work.

Can OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam hold heavy flowers?

According to florist feedback, OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam provides reliable support for many heavy flowers and structural materials. Florists have reported successfully using it with larger stems, branches, and event installations when appropriate floristry techniques are applied.

Is OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam worth the extra cost?

Whether OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam is worth the higher price depends on your priorities. Florists who value a more sustainability-focused option while maintaining the functionality of traditional floral foam may find the additional cost worthwhile. Others may prefer to trial a smaller quantity first to determine whether the benefits justify the investment for their workflow.

Why is OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam black?

Due to it being free from dyes and colorants, in combination with its unique plant-based ingredients, OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam features a very dark charcoal-black colour. Many florists report that the dark colouring makes the foam significantly less noticeable within arrangements, compared to traditional green floral foams.

What are the alternatives to OASIS® Renewal™ Floral Foam?

Common floral foam alternatives include chicken wire, AgraWool, floral wool, flower frogs, armatures, reusable mechanics, and other foam-free floristry techniques. The best option depends on the design, flowers being used, desired longevity, scalability, budgeting constraints, and the practical requirements of the arrangement.
