7 Beautiful DIY Autumn Wedding Ideas

Create Your Own Wedding Bird Cage Decor

At Koch we love birdcages, they’re a versatile, really pretty decor element and can provide the perfect touch for your wedding reception or ceremony. So if you’re looking for a unique and creative addition to your wedding decor why not give bird cages a try?

To help you on your way we’ve come up with a few creative wedding birdcage ideas to help you add a touch of vintage to your special day.

Create A Hanging Garden

Hung from a tree among lanterns, ribbons and artificial hanging plants, a birdcage can bring a ton of flair and personality to an outdoor wedding reception space. They’re easy to make and can be versatile so no matter what theme your wedding takes these delightful hanging ornaments can be used as part of a country, vintage, beach or autumn look, or customised for any number of beautiful wedding themes. Incorporate a selection of artificial flowers and artificial hanging plants draping out of the cage for a 3D element that is simple yet mesmerising. This idea can also work indoors, hung from rafters – and in either case the addition of ribbons or jute string allows you to play up the romance of the idea in your perfect colour combination.

Create A Wedding Centrepiece

Bird cages are super easy to decorate with, as they allow you to fill them up with all manner of beautiful items ranging from wedding cards and ribbons to fairy lights. However, for wedding decor we love how birdcages or metal cloches look when filled with flowers and plants – lots and lots of flowers! The juxtaposition of the structural metal of the cage, and the organic softness of the flowers, can create really stunning wedding centrepieces to decorate your table around.

And for after the wedding, bird cages make fantastic displays for house plants or for shop displays, no matter whether they’re natural or artificial. And who doesn’t love a wedding idea that recycles beautifully!

Create A Vintage Light

One wedding decor trend that’s gaining momentum is the use of bird cages as DIY light shades. Vintage bird cages can offer the ideal frame for a hanging pendant light, but at Koch we like the idea of making things a little more rustic by using candles. A birdcage with different sizes of pillar candles inside creates ethereal mood lighting. By placing candles or even electronic candles inside your bird cage you can create your very own Victorian-style lighting option and the interesting patterns the cages cast add to the atmosphere. As with all candle displays, it’s important to keep an eye on them and make sure the flame is keep well clear of the cage, and doesn’t get too hot. However, if you’re worried, you can always opt for electronic candles! These special candles can be left on all day and night.
